GOOD AFTERNOON, PORTLAND! Expect a mostly dry day tomorrow, with a high in the... [rubs eyes in disbelief]... upper 60s?!? Okay, weirdo weather, whatever you say, I guess! Let's jump into some NEWS.

IN LOCAL NEWS:

• Portland commish Carmen Rubio is calling for an overhaul of the city's Clean Energy Fund following a withering audit, and increasingly loud voices that we need to be doing more to fight climate change. Rubio's got some big ideas, and our Isabella Garcia breaks them down for you.

• Governor Kate Brown has sent up a red flag to the federal government, asking no other than President Biden to make a federal emergency declaration in response to Oregon's growing wildfires. The declaration would release federal money for wildfire response and preparation for future blazes.

• Fucking infuriating (but somehow not surprising) headline of the day: "Video shows southern Oregon sheriff’s deputy slapping disabled homeless activist in wheelchair."

• Wait... there are TWO "fucking infuriating (but somehow not surprising) headlines of the day"?: "Records imply Portland police slow-walked high profile homicide case [of antifascist activist Sean Kealiher]."

• Say goodbye to another memorial of Oregon's coal-burning era: A giant smokestack and boiler at Portland General Electric’s former coal-fired power plant has been demolished. (And there's video if you like that sort of thing!)

• Whooo-wheee! This year's Portland Book Festival—which is happening IN PERSON for the first time since the pandemmy—has an absolutely bangin' lineup of authors dropping in... and our Suzette Smith has the deets.

IN NATIONAL/WORLD NEWS

• It seems like the much-dreaded national railroad strike—which would've brought much-needed person and food transport to a halt—has been narrowly avoided thanks to help from the White House... but the workers still need to approve the tentative deal.

• Shit-heel Republicans in Florida and Texas are continuing to fuck with the lives of migrants in their states, by putting them on busses and planes and sending them to Democrat-led states. (Including the home of Veep Kamala Harris.)

• Oh, and speaking of Republican shit-heels: The January 6 domestic terrorist who wore a "Camp Auschwitz" shirt to the attack on the nation's capitol has been sentenced to 75 days in jail.

• While the Respect for Marriage Act—which would require states to legally recognize same-sex marriages from other states—overwhelmingly passed in the House, the Senate (thanks to shit-heel Republicans) will not vote on it until after the midterms.

 • And finally... if anyone has anything better to contribute to the internet today than this, I'd like to see it.
