Good morning, Portland! The best news: the weather people say that today is going to mostly sunny! Now for the rest of the news.

In local news:

• First things first: IT’S ELECTION DAY!!!! Voters have until 8 pm tonight to drop their ballots into a dropbox, or have their ballot collected from a mailbox. The first round of results will drop at 8 pm tonight, but we will likely not know final results until later in the week, at the earliest. The Mercury team will be crashing various election night parties, so tune in to our live blog tonight for early results, candidate reactions, and party snack reviews.

• Speaking of the election, Clackamas County Clerk Sherry Hall is BACK AT IT AGAIN! Hall announced that while Clackamas will report their first round of ballot results tonight at 8 pm (like all of the other counties), the elections office will wait 22 hours to report the next round of ballot results (unlike other counties, who will report several times on election night). This means that it may take longer to determine the results of several key races in the state. Truly—and I mean this from the bottom of my heart—what the hell, Sherry?

• Facing financial woes, TriMet board members are considering raising fare for the first time in seven years. According to data shared by the transit agency, the price of fare has not kept pace with TriMet’s rising operations costs, putting them in a financial pinch that could lead to further service cuts if left unaddressed. Not all board members are on board with using fare to address the budget deficit.

• The Portland police shot a member of the public yesterday while responding to a call about a man lighting a car on fire in SE Portland. It’s unclear how many officers fired their weapons. The unnamed man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

In national and international news:

Flu season is off to a fast start throughout the US, with 17 states recording higher than normal flu hospitalizations. According to the CDC, hospitalizations for the flu haven’t been this high since 2009, during the swine flu pandemic. The infection rate is not a total surprise to health officials, who note that flu season has been less severe the past couple years due to masks and reduced socializing.

• It’s still not clear whether there is a winner for the whopping $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot after Tuesday morning’s drawing. The Powerball jackpot has been ballooning for three months with no winners. Lottery officials say the chance of drawing the winning number are 1 in 292.2 million.

• Because humans are curious and inventive beings, the National Park Service has had to start asking people to not lick the Sonoran desert toad when visiting desert-area parks. The toad secretes a poisonous toxin containing 5-MeO-DMT, a powerful hallucinogen, which has apparently led to people seeking out the toads and licking them in hopes of a psychedelic experience. This is a bad idea because the toads are poisonous and will make humans sick if they lick it. Also, how would you feel if you were a toad, minding your toad business, and some fleshy nuisance came out of nowhere and licked you

• Starting in December, Airbnb will provide an option for users to view the entire cost of their stay, including cleaning fees, prior to the check out process. Users will also be able to rank search results by total cost, not just the per-night price Airbnbs are listed for. The change is coming after users complained of ballooning reservation costs during the checkout process due to massive cleaning fees that are tacked on to the nightly charge.

• How about we end on a beautiful Blazers moment from last night’s game? Go Zers!
