A Portland police officer shot at a man driving a car in North Portland's St. Johns Neighborhood Tuesday morning, after the driver allegedly attempted to run over a cop.

According to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), officers arrived at the scene near N Fessenden St. and N Macrum Ave. around 1:15 am, responding to a 911 call regarding gunfire in the area.

Per the PPB, "Officers arrived and located a person they believed to be involved." That suspect then jumped in a truck and allegedly rammed a police car with the truck, before "attempt[ing to] run over the officer who was on foot." That unnamed officer on foot then fired his gun at the truck driver.

The driver ultimately fled the scene and PPB could not track him down. It's unknown if he was injured by the gunfire.

This is the second time a PPB officer has shot at a member of the public in 48 hours. Sunday morning, PPB Officer Gelsomina "Mina" Cavalli-Singer fatally shot an unidentified man in the Centennial Neighborhood who had fired a gun.
